Chronic stress is a sneaky little devil. It begins innocuously, with mild upticks in tension levels. Left unmanaged, accumulated daily stress can gradually mushroom beyond all expectation. Worried about everything, the chronically stressed race through days of morning-to-bedtime crises, not daring to take a moment to nourish their exhausted minds and hearts.
They are dancing on the rim of a volcano, confident their balance is good. But just one distraction, one little slip, and … oops.
I confess that I myself have danced around that rim on occasion, though I’m certain I’ve not suffered as much as some others I've seen in this predicament. The thing that has perpetually saved me from the descent into full-blown chronic stress is having a whole flotilla of proven relaxation and recovery techniques always ready to launch. Whether it’s turning on some uber-relaxing music scientifically designed to oust stress, indulging in blissful aromatherapy bodycare products, or settling into a soft chair with a pretty view and a magical cup of calming tea, there are many means of dissolving accumulated stress. You just have to read the warning signs and know when to give yourself some special attention.
