In childhood the only thing I knew about frankincense was that it was one of the three gifts of the famous Wise Men to the baby Jesus. In recent years, however, I have learned why it was considered one of the greatest gifts of all. Based on what I have learned, frankincense something I will always keep around.
Frankincense comes from the gummy sap of Boswellia trees, which natively grow in the Arabian peninsula, India, and regions of northern Africa. Famed since ancient times for its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, frankincense is also highly regarded for its majestic aroma, which is widely believed to have anti-anxiety properties. Scientific research is now beginning to support this notion with evidence.(1)
The scent of frankincense has notes unlike any other natural substance. It is slightly sweet and lemony, with intoxicating woody undertones that give it a unique stateliness. This is a beautiful, commanding scent that can swiftly draw your attention away from the day's chaos and help foster internal calm.
Several months ago, as we began to develop our Inner Sunrise aromatherapy product line, we sought to discover and share the most relaxing scents we could find. The particular type of frankincense we are using is the lovely boswellia serrata from India. We loved the way that frankincense mingles with the more traditional relaxation-scent of lavender. So creating a Frankincense & Lavender blend for our line was a natural choice. One whiff and we were hooked on the calmative power of this blend of two perfect complements.
We hope you will agree, when you check out the Frankincense and Lavender products in our aromatherapy body-care line. As always, your feedback is most welcome.
